A Provincial Championships campaign for Cuban Cigar could be on the cards following today’s strong home‑track victory in the 1300m Conditional BM68.
The four‑year‑old son of Churchill, partnered by Mitchell Bell, registered his fourth career win at just his eighth start, with a lone minor placing also on the résumé.
After jumping cleanly, he was allowed to switch off near the tail, settling in his comfort zone while the speed rolled along up front. Bell didn’t panic, biding his time until the field approached the bend. From there, Cuban Cigar was peeled to the outside, given clear air, and the response was immediate. He lengthened, going through his gears, and powered over the top late, putting the race to bed with authority.
